Many people come to me for a massage due to mental health problems. So many people encounter anxiety, depression and other emotional problems on a daily basis,so it's important to remember you are not alone!
Massage therapy is being increasingly recognized as a tool to help decrease anxiety and depression. Often we feel unbalanced and our mind and body can suffer due to the stress and challenges of everyday life. Your mind and body are so connected. If your mind is under stress, this can also affect your body. For example, tension caused by stress, anxiety or fatigue may lead to head aches, stomach aches, muscle cramps, joint pain or inflammation.
Massage lowers the level of the stress hormone cortisol which is responsible for depression, anxiety, increased blood pressure, impaired memory, and other mental health disorders. Massage reduces the levels of cytokines, molecules that heighten or reduce inflammation
During my Swedish and Deep tissue massage I use slow and flowing strokes which helps to promote relaxation. Massage focuses on completely releasing tension in your body and allowing the mind to switch off for the treatment time.
